After hours of being cold decked and faced with stiff opposition from the big stacks at the table, Brad got his last 330k in the pot preflop with K5c and was called by Bert Boutin's pocket 3s. The pocket pair held up and Brad was eliminated in 3rd place, earning him a very healthy $319,180 USD. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Yukoner becomes first Canadian Heads-up Champion!
Monday, 11 December 2006

Whitehorse resident James Lopushinsky endured a final, epic day of incredibly difficult heads up challenges Sunday in order to win the inaugural Canadian Heads-Up Poker Championship.

James bested close friend and mentor Brad Booth in a 4 hour match, followed by a 3.5 hour game against professional poker player Huck Seed, who just finished 3rd in the NBC National Heads-Up Championship in Las Vegas, and then a 3 hour grind at the final table where James found himself with less than half of his starting stack within the first half hour, but managed to overcome the short stack and take the title and first prize of $250,000.

The Calgary Sun also has a report on the tourny as does the Whitehorse Star.

CBC North interviewed James - read it here or listen to it here on Real Audio.

Congratulations James!!!!
